every thing went great. didnt see any snakes, dispite of some warnings. i was never worried. i have lived in texas for almost 15 years, i spend alot of time on, in and around the water. i also go hiking and geocachung, and i have never seen a snake in the wild. i think they are just affraid of me....anyways. our first river trip with the canoe was great. it took us about 3.5 hours to travel the 5.5 mile stretch from gravel crossing to stillhouse bridge. we didnt get to cache, because the river banks were less than ideal to step out on. plus i forgot to bring the machete with me. wednsday afternoon its back to barefoot camp. there we are going to meet up with some friends. sheila has to work saturday, so we are going to head back to killeen on friday afternoon.

we are going to meet toes at the pick-up point, which is still house bridge, to drop off his truck at 5:30am. we are starting so early, so we can watch the sunrise and to avoid the Texas Afternoon Sun. then we are going load up toes's kayak in to the bus, and drive upriver to the drop-off point at Gravel Crossing. we try to be in the water buy 6am. The total paddling route is 5.5 miles.

after work today, an old high school friend came out with me to put the canoe through its trials. we launched at the marina and made a chris-cross tour accross the bay. we encountered wind and white-caps, but the canoe stayed stable. getting in and out at a dock is a snap. going against the wind made for a good workout, but she moved along.
after loading the canoe back up, billy and i went after a cache nearby. this was billys first time caching, and he found it right away.

the newspapers always misspell my name...how hard is it to ask me, then write it down, then type it into their article? I know i misspelled my share of names whenever i produce a video or something, but that us usually because thats the way it was spelled to me. this reporter did not even talk to me...
they could not find it...didn't want to track across the field in 100
degree texas heat to check on it. so i took the shortcut...almost got
stuck in the mud. cache was still there. my coords were about 10 ft
off, so i updated them with new data
