so after investing another $40 on tools, i got the oil pan off. turns out that i needed a 5mm ball point hex driver to get the last two screws out. a set of those tools were $27 at sears. i had earlier bought a joint and extension for my ratchet, which was $16. that tool served to be useless. so my total so far is $170. still better than $500, and i get to keep the tools.

Brazing is not working for me. either i have the wrong rod. i am not getting the oil pan hot enough, or something. unless i come across a revelation on how it is done, between now and Monday, i will have to bring the oil pan to a weld shop. Taking it to the weld shop is going to cost $65; bringing the total to $235. still much better than $500, but i could have saved the money for the torch ($25), mask ($5), goggles ($3), and rods ($9).

so the preliminary line of money i have wasted so far on this project.

$4 adapter + $ 16 extension/joint + $25 torch + $5 mask + $3 goggles + $9 rods = $58

ooh well, I always wanted to have a torch anyway, but i wish i hadn't bought those extension/joint and the other adapter.

i went ahead and re-attached the oil pan so that the motor stays clean.

now its time to take the dog for a walk
